As this is the first lot of news for the year, there
is a bit to catch up with, so here it is.
* The band successfully completed a huge number of
playouts just before Christmas and the Band's Annual
Christmas Stocking was won
by a lady named Beth.
* On December 26, 2011
Trevor Reid
passed away. Trevor was veteran of the Brass band
music scene in Tasmania and like his brothers he was
a great musician. The Reid name continues in the
Tasmanian brass band scene with the likes of Malcolm
who now plays with the Ulverstone band. You can find
a tribute to Trevor in the
Archives
page from the period in which he won an Order of
Australia Award in 2010.
* On December 31, 2011 the band was once again able
to raise some extra money by helping out with
various tasks at Burnie's New Years Eve '
Night
On The Terrace' function.
* On January 26, 2012 the band played at the
Australia Day Service held at the Burnie Arts and
Functions Centre, The highlite of this long service
for us was the presentation of the
2011
Burnie Australia Day Event of the Year to
the
Les Neish 'Tuba Shines'
workshops and Concert. The award was
accepted by our very own
Andrew Bentley
who was the instigator of the event and played a
large part in getting it off the ground.
* On January 30, 2012
Jimmy Kelty
passed away at the age of 73. Jimmy was made a life
member of our band back in the mid 1970s and was a
player in brass bands for well over 50 years. He
last played for our band back in about 2001, but a
number of our existing band members still have fond
memories of time spent with Jimmy in the band. It
was our honour for our band to be asked to play some
hymns at his funeral service held on February 2.
